The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – Banned In India

The movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has been banned in India. It was supposed to be released on February 10, but India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) failed to certify for public viewing.

The board objected on several nude scenes, including rape and torture, and wanted them to be blurred or cut. “Bare bottom and bare-breast scenes are not allowed in India,” J.P. Singh, an official at CBFC, told AFP.

Of course, as expected, Sony Pictures didn’t succumb to such demand.   And it’s a huge no-no for David Fincher, the director, to simply cut his artistic vision in the movie.

I remember the movie Schindler’s List (1993) was initially banned in the Philippines.  But at the end, with the blessing of the President,  the Certifying Board yielded to show the movie in its entirety.

Then what happened?  Nothing.

So, come on India.  Nudity and brutality is everywhere.  In fact, it’s just a click away.  I think what needs to be regulated is the age limit.  Hey kids stay home this time.

Okay… not really!

Actually, I have to applaud India for standing its ground.  If the public viewers are not ready for sexual and brutal graphics on screen, then don’t show it.  As simple as that!  Besides, India still has a large segment of society who uphold the sanctity of life and the divine mother principle.  So let’s not pollute their innocence.

And what about the liberal minded Indians who are dismayed for missing the Dragon Tattooed Girl?

Well guys, for now, just enjoy the Bollywood movies.  Alright?
