Blogger.com vs. WordPress.com – Review

So you want to be a blogger, eh?

I know, I know… your mind is bursting out with ideas and you want to share to the world.  You are a born writer but not a computer Geek who eats HTML and CSS for breakfast. Right?  Good!  Then continue reading.

These days there are so many web blog hosts where you can literally setup your blogsite and post a blog in just few minutes.  Yes, without the intricate knowledge of computer language.  And best of all, they’re Free!

However I would only review two hosts: Blogger.com and WordPress.com —not that these are the only best out there, but because these two are famous and I’ve been using them for quite a while now.

So here we go people.

Blogger

BLOGGER.com

1) Usage: Very easy to use.  Dumb Proof.

2) Theme:  You can customize the components of your ready made theme to suit your taste—Change the background, width of blog page, text, etc.  Add header picture, side bars, etc. etc. etc.  A lot of things you can customize.

3) Widgets: Third party widgets are allowed.

4) HTML/CSS: If you are expert of “copy and paste” (we all are), you can search and embed html or css codes.

5) Ads/Money Making: If you want to make lots and lots of money.  Yes, you can with Google Adsense.  But you need your grandma to click the ads Zillion times. Or else stop daydreaming.

6) Domain Names: Once you are already hooked and—you’re not cheap, you can upgrade from subdomain (www.yourblog.blogspot.com) to custom domain (www.yourblog.com).  You will need to pay $10/year for domain name (free-mapping/redirection).

7) Last but not the least – with Blogger.com you’ll become a real blogger with one avid reader–You!  And of course, a few lost souls wandering in the blogsphere world.

Blogger.com vs. WordPress.com - Review

WORDPRESS.com

1) Usage:  Easy but not Very.  You need to spend time to fully navigate and understand the blogsite.  If you’re dumb, you’ll get dumber. (justkiddingalright)

2) Theme:  You can customize your ready made theme design –But Very Limited!  You’ll get tired and frustrated of trying to change the unchangeable.

3) Widgets:  Third party widgets are Not allowed

4) HTML/CSS:  If you are expert of “copy and paste” – Don’t jump for joy yet!  You can add html but not css code unless you pay $## per year.

5) Ads/Money Making:  Google Adsense??? and make lots and lots of money???  For WordPress.com you don’t need your grandma.  Google Adsense is not allowed.

6) Domain:  Once you are totally hooked, you’ll keep it as your back up blog.  Ohh, sorry, I forgot.  If you are not cheap, you can upgrade from subdomain  (www.yourblog.wordpress.com) to custom domain  (www.yourblog.com).  You will only need to pay a low $5/year for domain name.  But you’ll be slapped with $12/year for paying cheap… I mean for domain mapping/redirection.  Total of $17/year.

7) Last but not the least – with WordPress.com you’ll become a real blogger with one avid reader–You!  And of course, a few lost souls wandering in the blogsphere world.

The Winner:  BLOGGER.com

Okay folks, that’s only my opinion based on my experience with both blog hosts.  Perhaps, yours is different.  I know a lot of bloggers moved from Blogger.com to WordPress.com for whatever reasons.

Wait, why I picked Blogger.com then?  I guess I was wrong.  Nahhhhhhh!!!

Note:

But seriously, if you are a serious blogger and really serious to spend time & effort, forget the above review.  You are better off with WordPress.com.  Don’t ask me why, just try both and see which is which.   Good Luck!!!
