U.S. House of Representatives Approves “Clean” Debt Ceiling
Washington – The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to raise the government’s borrowing limit until March 2015. Thanks to House Speaker John Boehner, the political bickering between Democrats and Republican has been set aside. Instead of government shutdown, the House of Representatives gave President Obama, the US economy and American people a sigh of relief.
The vote, 221-201, was narrowly approved with mostly Democrats and only 28 Republicans voted yes. The approved “clean” debt ceiling has no conditions as what President Obama demanded. And by allowing the vote on the floor, Boehner has antagonized the conservative based.
These are some of the comments as reported by The New York Times:
“He gave the president exactly what he wanted, which is exactly what the Republican Party said we did not want,” said a Republican representative, Tim Huelskamp of Kansas. “It’s going to really demoralize the base.”
“A clean debt ceiling is a complete capitulation on the speaker’s part and demonstrates that he has lost the ability to lead the House of Representatives, let alone his own party,” said Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots. “It is time for him to go.”
Worry not, Mr. Boehner. In my opinion and without doubt, countless of Americans — You did what’s best for the country. Kudos to you, Mr. Speaker!
