San Francisco-based artist Bill Domonkos creates hypnotic and bizarre animated GIFs. He takes an old black and white photograph and enhanced it with digital technology to create an amazing GIF. His work conveys fleeting moments of extraordinary experience to viewers, as they immersed themselves into, as he puts it, collision and recombination of ideas.

Domonkos is an experimental filmmaker and video artist. His work has been featured in numerous online publications and shown internationally on cinemas, galleries and museums. He has done several solo and group exhibitions in various countries. Please click here to see his past exhibitions.

 

“I view my work as a collision and recombination of ideas. My process unfolds gradually and spontaneously—using found materials such as archive film footage, photographs, and the internet. I experiment by combining, altering, editing and reassembling using digital technology, special effects and animation to create a new kind of experience. I am interested in the poetics of time and space—to renew and transform materials, experiences and ideas. The extraordinary thing about cinema is its ability to suggest the ineffable—something that cannot or should not be expressed in words. It is this elusive, dreamlike quality that informs my work.”
